SEND is a community arts organisation providing workshops, courses and bespoke projects to young people and vulnerable adults across the East Midlands via outreach and studio based projects. We create a positive environment that fosters self-confidence, self-esteem, transferrable skills and aspirations, through creative experiences with the arts, technology and the natural environment.
Why the community needs usSEND is based in the Greenway Centre in Sneinton which is a valuable community hub. Recently we have been working with the Czech-Roma community in helping them form a cohesive group. We always try to foster a social conscience in those we work with which we hope will go on to benefit the community as a whole. As we work with young people who lack structure and support the activities we involve them in keep them focused and away from potential trouble, crime and damaging behaviours.
Our impact on the communityWe encourage personal development and inspire individuals to pass on skills and information to their peers. We know that supporting learners in building their confidence, sense of self-worth and self-respect unlocks their learning potential. The arts provide an ideal means to achieve this as, with skilled programme design, the fun and creativity involved can provide a route into learning and progression, particularly for those who have lacked confidence or motivation in other learning settings.
