
The Slough Senior Citizens Group was launched in January 2006, with a view to promoting healthy living for Senior Citizens. The group organizes workshops and seminars on health related issues and trips for respite and relaxation and social events. We hold Tai Chi exercise classes every wednesday and keep fit classes every Friday.
Why the community needs usThe focus of the group is to encourage senior citizens to have a healthy lifestyle. Our classes provide an opportunity for people to meet socially as well as benefiting from exercise. We also signpost the elderly to other organisations and facilities that can help. We meet the needs of elderly people who because of lack of language skills and economic deprivation do not find it easy to go elsewhere.
Our impact on the communityOur members not only enjoy the benefits of the exercise classes we provide, they also gain friendship and fellowship. The attendees of our classes develop confidence and social skills which help them in everyday lives. This decreases social isolation which is becoming more and more common amongst the elderly.
