Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people and the world around them. Spectrum Club provides this group of vulnerable children with a safe environment to play and meet friends. We provide a range of activities such as X-Box, cooking, art and craft as well as outdoor activities such as football or cricket.
Why the community needs usThere are over 500,000 people with autism in the UK - that's 1 in 100. Together with their families, that's over two million people whose lives are touched by autism every single day. Spectrum Club makes a difference by providing these young people with a safe place to play, socialise and learn. The club provides much needed respite time for families as we also provide holiday activities.
Our impact on the communityThe club has had a huge impact on the children who attend. We have grown in numbers and as a result a 2nd club for 13-18 year olds has now been established called Oasis. Children now meet up outside club session times as a direct result of the friendships made at Spectrum & Oasis Youth Club. During 2013 we have established a third group called Cosmos which is aimed at young people 17 years and over.
