The St Albans Museums and Galleries Trust are working hard to raise the match-funding required of just over £0.4m of the overall £7.75 million cost towards the ambitious project to transform the St Albans Grade II* Listed Town Hall into a museum and gallery that will combine museum collections, contemporary art, and learning for all ages. 94% has been secured, including Heritage Lottery funding, but we need your support to close the funding gap and help make this visionary project a reality
Why the community needs usThe new museum will feature a learning studio for schools and community groups, a timeline showcasing the rich story of St Albans history and a programme of temporary exhibitions offering visitors a fresh experience every time. Free general entry and a community engagement plan will be in place to reach a range of audiences. The new museum will be a source of knowledge, inspiration and a way for all people to learn about their past and enrich their future
Our impact on the communitySt Albans Town Hall had fallen in to disrepair, was underused and in need of restoration. By returning it to public use and transforming it into a museum and gallery residents can be proud of, it will reflect its original purpose as a building for all people. With a wider range of people engaging with heritage and culture at the new museum, it will improve St Albans and the surrounding districts as a place to live, work, study, and visit. A projected 200,000 people are expected to visit annually
