Plymouth | Community Support & Development
Plymouth Vineyard is a Christian church which was set up to serve the people of Plymouth. Our objectives are "the advancement of the Christian faith, the relief of the poor and needy, the relief of the sick and elderly, and the furtherance of religious or secular public education." Our Children's Storehouse Project practically supports local disadvantaged families with young children, who are in crisis need due to financial hardship, escaping domestic violence or are asylum seekers.
Why the community needs usChildren's Storehouse runs a drop-in centre from our premises in Plymouth city centre where disadvantaged families referred by local agencies are given good quality donated children's clothing, bedding, beds, toys and equipment, completely free of charge. It is also a safe and welcoming place for parents to chat and receive support and for children to play. We also provide crisis food parcels to help people without money for food, often those leaving rehabilitation and re-entering the community.
Our impact on the communityRecipients of our project speak of the care and compassion received as well as practical help and assistance. More long term results are through the support that give families a chance of starting again and breaking the cycle of poverty and/or addiction, and improve children's level of development, health and well-being. We liaise with Social Services and other professional agencies and are seeing the benefits of working in partnership with others to bring lasting changes to peoples lives.
