Symbiotic are a Plymouth based theatre company, that promote positive exploration of mental health by fusing the worlds of psychology and art. Our central aim is to actively engage the community in professional level activities that raise awareness of - and begin to tackle - the social stigma's associated with mental health. The Company operates on a 3-tier structure, delivering touring productions, community programmes and creative learning projects, covering ages from 3 to 103!
Why the community needs usThe company aims to nurture a genuinely symbiotic* relationship between professional theatre/arts and the mental health sector; fusing the worlds of psychology and art to explore the social sciences, by using the emotive power of the arts to provoke debate around the human psyche, challenge negative perceptions and tackle public stigma surrounding mental health. Our work spans 3 tiers; touring productions, community programmes and creative learning, encouraging people of all ages to participate.
Our impact on the community'Being able to make sense of our experiences is an important ingredient of psychological well being. Symbiotic offer an inspirational community based way to address important social issues; reducing stigma and giving participants a unique way to gain confidence and skills needed to engage with life.' - Pauline Earle, Mental Health Consultant'Before I came here, I was dead.
