The club aims to help people as far as possible to regain their speech and to provide a supportive environment in which members can achieve their full potential. The club holds weekly sessions at the Sydenham Community Centre. We cater for over thirty members several of whom are wheelchair bound. The Club provides activities which promote speech and helps members to interact with each other and volunteers. We also organise trips to various places of interest.

Why the community needs us

There is no other club locally helping people who have been severely limited or lost their speech primarily due to a stroke. We have members from a wide area eg. Taunton, Burnham, Stogursey, Westonzland and Ashcott. The group is open to anyone and their ages range from 40 to 90 years of age. The club enables them to try out and improve their speech where no-one will criticise or judge them.

Our impact on the community

The members are able to communicate much better and make their requirements and needs known much easier. Their reading and speech abilities have also improved and they are able to express themselves in their own way. Their confidence has vastly increased and good friendships have been made.
