Our team at The Spring Charity offer community services for local families to gain opportunities to improve their well-being and outcomes in life and ensure the children start school with the same skills as their peers. We are working to benefit vulnerable families with children aged 0-5years in the Northampton town area (especially Castle Ward which covers Spring Boroughs, Semilong, St James and The Mounts). Research has confirmed that parts of Castle Ward are in the top 5% of areas for deprivation nationally. Many of our families experience financial hardship, and social, health or economic issues. Many of the visitors to our charity are having to choose between heating their homes or feeding their families, In addition, many of these hard-working families are not always eligible for benefits as one or both parents work.To access our support parents can self-refer, or be signposted by health, other professionals, schools, or other charities in the area. We run 'Stay and Play' parent and child drop-in sessions twice a week. These sessions help us to make contact and build relationships, so we can best meet our family’s needs. We are currently working on a number of new projects focussing on well-being and healthy living, which includes a gardening project as many of our families live in flats and have no access to a garden, providing a Warm Space for local residents who are having to choose between heating or eating and developing a teaching kitchen so that we can provide cookery groups and budgeting support to local families and residents, as many of our families report that they have no cookery skills and are struggling to feed their families a balanced diet. All of the work we undertake is funded by charitable donations and funding we bid for when working on specific projects.
