TIDES are committed to the development of sustainable peace in Northern Ireland, capacity building and supporting conflict transformation with combatants and the wider civil society by making sure that everyone has a voice, developing thinking that will resolve conflict through non-violent forms of action. Including the development of sustainable peace internationally by supporting those who are working to bring about peace and influence policy and decision making though training and mediation.
Why the community needs usTIDES work helps people and communities elevate their behaviour away from violence taking them on a journey of self-awareness and reconciliation through education. Helping people to understand and work towards acceptable solutions, while learning methods of mutual understanding and negotiation skills so that it can continue to be practised in and across communities. Our teaching methodology is to combine a range of restorative practices tools e.g. conflict analysis, mediation and training.
Our impact on the communityIn the last 6-months TIDES have delivered 110 programmes to over 1,000 people in areas such as Conflict Management, Good Relations, Decade of Centenaries, Diversity, Community Development/Civic Leadership & Contentious Cultural Issues. We have also seen an upsurge in TIDES mediation services due to an increase in community tensions due to parading and flagging issues. Outcomes include: minority voices being heard, agreed flag protocols, reduced community tensions & inter-community dialogues.
