Torquay Child Contact Centre exists to provide a local venue for children to be able to meet and maintain their relationships with parents and family members after parental divorce or separation. The service is provided by volunteers working a rota each Saturday morning to staff the basement community room at the Central Church, basically equipped to provide a child-friendly and neutral venue as free as possible from the parental disagreement and the professional agencies of the Family Court.
Why the community needs usWe have opened every Saturday since 1991 and helped thousands of children resume or maintain their relationships with an absent parent or family member after the trauma of separation and divorce. Each year in the UK it is estimated that 100,000 lose touch with a parent and their wider family as a result of divorce and separation, with huge costs in misery and maladjustment.
Our impact on the communityMost children are able to move on from the centre and enjoy sustained parental relationship after attendance. Parents and grandparents have all testified to the positive benefit to them of the existence of our centre. In some cases, they have returned as volunteers to help us continue our work.
