Providing work experience for long term unemployed local people, though a recycling project. Mansfield has high levels of unemployment, little has been done in the past to generate employment opportunities, especially for the low skilled. This creates a feeling of hopelessness and causes social exclusion for many families. We collect business waste to prevent it going to landfill. We work with people with multiple issues which create barriers for them to return to work. Lack of money to travel; debt issues; homelessness; relationship issues; problems with the police and courts; issues with drink and drugs. They need a lot of support to re-integrate and become valued, productive members of the community. Supporting the weaker member of society has a beneficial impact on the community in general. We also have a positive benefit on local businesses and the environment.

We find the opportunity to get out of bed and do something useful has a positive benefit to the participants. It raises their self esteem and improves their feelings of self worth. People enjoy working with us and even volunteer after their placement has finished. Everyone needs a purpose in life and need to feel valued. So far we have helped 7 people into work, secure offers for 2 people and assist people through interviews. Also assisting people to set up their own micro company.
