
We are a small group of visually impaired people together with some sighted helpers meet regularly at Yeovil Bowls Club to enjoy a game of Lawn bowls. We meet each week in Yeovil but our members come from various areas in South Somerset and from across the border in Dorset. We play our bowls throughout the year, out of doors in summer (weather permitting) and indoors during the winter. People from age 16 and with any level of visual impairment.
Why the community needs usAs a club we provide the opportunity for visually impaired members to not only take part in a sporting activity but also to socalise with other visually impaired people.
Our impact on the communitySo far in 2011 two of our members won the V.I.B.E. (visually impaired bowls england) national pairs held in Scarborough,one of our members won the roundwood singles held in Norwich, we also had success in Weston super Mare coming first and third in the open singles and a member winning the best lady bowler. we were also succesfull in the V.I.B.E. nationals in Worthing, winning the B4 singles and B4 pairs and runners up in theB2 pairs. We also arrange local friendlies against local sighted clus.
