Why the community needs usYork Playspace Chillout Zones provide a safe, warm, friendly place for children to go. They are listened to and valued by our trained staff and volunteers. The zones give the children something positive to do instead of hanging around the streets. Children at the Zone are given a hot meal, which may be the only hot meal they get that day and which they help to plan, cook and prepare, giving them a life skill. The Zones provide a wide choice of planned activities such as sports, games and crafts
Our impact on the communityChildren attending the Zones are in a safe haven and not playing out on the on the streets in the evenings, where they could engage in anti-social behaviour or become victims of crime themselves. They are supported and listened to with any problems or worries they may have, and are able to be themselves away from the pressures of home, achieve personal development which enables them to build up their self-confidence and enterprising behaviour. Zones help towards early intervention solutions.
