About the appeal

University of Plymouth Careers Service – Plymouth Running Festival 2024

A team from the University of Plymouth’s Careers Service and their friends, are running/jogging/dragging themselves around a combination of the Plymouth Half Marathon, 10k and 5K in support of PCiP. Promoting Children in Plymouth is a charity that is closely aligned to the values and ethos of the Careers Service and one that we are very keen to support. As a team, we will have a mix of seasoned runners and complete newbies all working hard to raise as much money as possible! We have taken part in numerous fundraising events over the years, including running the 2022 London Marathon to raise money for blood cancer charities Anthony Nolan and Blood Cancer UK, running in local Harbour races in support of Mind and undertaking a virtual London Marathon in support of Shekinah, so we are delighted to take on the Running Festival for such a good cause. Please support us in raising money for this amazing charity, which does incredible work within the city of Plymouth.

PCiP spearheads Plymouth Drake Foundation’s specific mission to eradicate the social injustice, ill-health and misery caused by child poverty in Plymouth. It brings together the public, private and third sectors to ensure that, as a city acting in unison, we remain dedicated to making a difference throughout a young person’s early life.

Inspiration...
..the opportunities that children can be given to achieve their true potential which many other children take for granted, such as visiting the outdoors or just seeing beyond their immediate world.
Aspiration...
...to understand the life and employment opportunities which are open to all, assisting young people to establish goals to work towards and believing that they can achieve them, no matter what their background.
Education...
...the toolkit of life skills (such as language, confidence, experiences and knowledge of how to present yourself ) which allow children to compete on a level playing field with others.
