Please support the SRA's 'Beat the Beacons' charity challenge!
Following the success of last year's '7 peaks challenge' which raised more than £3,000 for charity, on Saturday 10 October we tackled the "Big Four" peaks of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales. These are the highest summits in southern Britain and the training ground of the SAS.
Our aim was to raise money for Birmingham and Solihull Women's Aid. The team members were
Richard Armstrong - Emma Bowen - Holly Brandum - Ruth Van Dreumel - Roberto Ferrari - Sarah Knight - Jeanette Malin - Emma Miles - Beth Moreton - Tim Pearce - Jo Welsh - Alastair Willcox - Stephen Wood
We walked over nine miles and climbed over 3,600 feet, taking 6 hours 16 minutes, in VERY foggy conditions. (The photo was taken during the one break in the mist!). Careful navigation in this steep and treacherous terrain was essential.
Jigishi Patel at BSWAID says "Demand on our services has never been higher, and our supporters make a real and significant difference to the number of women and children that we can reach and support. All the money you raise will go directly to supporting local women and children affected by domestic and sexual violence."
Donations are still OPEN - it would be good to reach or target - please support this worthwhile cause!
