Empowering children to love reading with dedicated volunteer support - ABC to read.
To advance the education and self confidence of children in Berkshire, particularly by helping them to overcome reading difficulites, thereby promoting their general well-being. We do this by recruiting and training community volunteers to provide 1:1 support for children in Berkshire primary schools.
Why the community needs us
The children we help gain an essential skill for life and are encouraged to develop a love of reading. Our volunteers are rewarded by making a positive contribution towards their community and many develop skills which may be useful in the workplace or other areas of their lives. Schools benefit by increasing contact with the wider community and the variety of skills volunteers bring with them.
Our impact on the community
Improve reading levels in children identified as needing 1:1 support. Improve children's confidence and self-esteem. Enable children to develop a more positve attitude to reading. Reduce barriers to accessing future education, training and employment.
