Borderline Arts is an arts and mental health charity. Borderline, Borderline Art and Borderline Theatre (now collectively known as Borderline) were all projects founded and instigated by Sarah Eley. In all we do, our goal is to use creativity to raise awareness and reduce stigma surrounding Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
Why the community needs us
Giving a voice to and increasing the confidence of those with BPD, can improve their mental health. Educating local students/staff who help or plan to help those with BPD, can improve the care given to sufferers. Encouraging discussion with the public can improve relationships and reduce stigma, creating a more understanding and accepting attitude about mental health in the community. Linking with other local groups and providing fulfilling events helps strengthen and enrich the local community.
Our impact on the community
Borderline Arts is a partially user-led group. Several of our committee and volunteers have a diagnosis of BPD or have personal caring experience which ensures that our services effectively meet the needs of our service users and the local community. We have already put on 2 exhibitions, facilitated many creative workshops for service users, carers and the public, and we have also put on a theatre performance. All events have had great feedback proving that what we are doing is meeting our aims.
