Town and Country, Recording the Shows.

A project by Community Arts Rhayader And District

This year we will be documenting Rhayader Carnival and the Elan Valley, Nantmel, Pantydwr and Pont yr Elan agricultural shows.Volunteers will film, photograph and record people at the Carnival and shows and tell their stories. We will hold exhibitions on the day and follow up people who might want to be interviewed further to share their memories, old films or photographs.

Why they need our service

These community celebrations are unique, Each event is different as each tells the story of the people living in and around the towns, villages and farmsteads surrounding it. Changes.in society mean that rural lifestyles are under pressure from new patterns of work and leisure. We want to celebrate and record these shows for future generations.

Plan and expected results

We would like to produce a series of short films and publications that can be seen online and in Rhayader Community Museum as well as being available for people to enjoy at home. This will give people a collective sense of their community and a record to look back on with enjoyment. It will enable visitors to the Museum and to the area to have a glimpse of lifestyles they would not otherwise see or connect with.
