OCRA is the residents' association covering an area roughly bounded by the River Cam, Elizabeth Way, Chesterton High Street, Union Lane, Scotland Road, Green End Road, Water Lane and Fen Road. OCRA was formed in the early 1990s by residents concerned with road safety in the area. The scope of the Association has expanded to include commenting on important planning applications affecting the area and on policies and strategies from the City that impact on local residents.
Why the community needs usOCRA monitors local planning applications and becomes involved by commenting on, or opposing applications where it is felt to be in the local interest. It supports local residents in planning applications and appeals. OCRA involves itself in local issues such as bus services to East Chesterton, Chesterton Station, parking, road calming and street cleaning. OCRA comments on any City or County Council consultations affecting the East Chesterton area, and is represented at North Area Committee.
Our impact on the communityOCRA took the lead by convening a group of local councilors and others to co-operate on managing developments in Fen Road and Chesterton Fen. OCRA lobbied successfully for an extension of the Conservation Areas in East Chesterton. OCRA Campaigned for better sports facilities in East Chesterton. OCRA Helped establish St. Andrew's Hall for the community. Established Friends of Stourbridge Common. Influenced planning in the Vie Development, St. Andrew's Park and The Maltings in the High St.
