The Shrublands Trust was established as a registered charity in 1996 by the church on the estate - Shrublands Christian Fellowship (now Shrublands Community Church). The Trust was set up to serve the local community with the objective of alleviating poverty.

Initially the Trust was a place that provided advice to local residents but this soon developed to include the provision of Breakfast and Lunch Clubs. Over the following years the Trust also began operating as a children's/homework club on Fridays as well as other midweek groups and activities.

Changes in community needs led the Trust to open the Food Bank Scheme in 2015. The Food Bank has now become the largest project run by the Trust and has become a hugely valuable asset to the local community - at its inception the Food Bank was feeding 6 families, this has now risen to 79.
