The Nugent family have personal experience of eating disorders through living with and caring for their youngest son Laurence, who had an eating disorder. Laurence left us in 2009 after living with bulimia for 8 years. Through this personal experience, the Nugent family and their close friends felt it important to establish a charity to educate and inform members of the public and healthcare providers about eating disorders, particularly among guys, and provide a mechanism of support for eating disorder sufferers and their families.
Why the community needs us
The Laurence Trust aims to raise awareness of eating disorders among guys and promote preventative awareness in schools, community groups and among those who provide support for those suffering with eating disorders. Most importantly, we provide a mechanism of support where sufferers and their families can contact us either online or by telephone to get information about eating disorders and start the path to recovery.
Our impact on the community
The feedback from the people we serve has been very positive through our 10 years of existence and we hope to keep helping as many people as we possibly can.
