In 2021 I will be celebrating my tenth year working at the Wessex MS Therapy Centre and I am going to race a 10K at the Frome Half Marathon on Sunday 18th July, to raise funds for my favourite charity!
I love working at the MS Centre and every day is different with all sorts of challenges to overcome on behalf of our amazing members. As you can imagine, the coronavirus pandemic has triggered a whole new dimension to the daily operating procedures at our charity and I feel now is the time for me to offer myself as a fundraiser to help the Centre to get back up and running to it's former thriving centre of excellence.
The MS Centre is a regional charity offering life enhancing therapies to people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other conditions. MS is known as the young person’s disease and the average age of diagnoses is 37 years. We do not know what causes MS and there is no known cure, but regular physical and emotional therapies can improve the quality of life for everyone with MS. The charity has been caring for its community since 1984 and in 2019 it delivered over 10,000 therapies. Based on the Somerset/ Wiltshire borders, the charity covers a wide geographical area right down to the Dorset coast. The main therapies on offer are physiotherapy, oxygen therapy, counselling, massage therapy, reflexology and energy therapy. There is also Pilates, exercise/dance, gong bath and regular lunch clubs. There is a unique MS Buddy scheme where the charity recruits and trains volunteers to visit people with MS in their own homes, especially those suffering from social isolation or having an MS relapse. The MS Centre is a place of hope and light and members visit to enjoy a slice of 'positive living with MS'.
Thanks for reading this far and for supporting my run and wish me luck on the day!
