We are lucky that we are taking the choice to sleep out in the cold in difficulty conditions for one night only. Others aren't lucky enough to have a choice.
Surprisingly, even in this modern era, homelessness is on the rise and actually, it can happen to any one of us. Something happens in life - you lose your job or have a relationship break-up and then everything just starts to spiral. There are many other reasons for homelessness - people leaving prison with nowhere to go, women who have to leave abusive relationships and feel it is safer on the streets than stay with the abuse, The cost of living crisis could mean that you are no longer able to pay the rent or mortgage.
Homelessness is devastating for the mind and the body. We feel we need to do something to raise awareness of homelessness and to try and end it.
Over the years, we have both been involved in helping the homeless and just being there sometimes as a listening ear or to show some form of compassion. Homelessness Sunday which this year falls on Sunday 8th October is an ideal time to raise awareness and so we decided we would take part in the Daylight Centres first Sleepout event to raise important funds for the Community Hub and Foodbank.
The Daylight Centre is a fantastic Charity within our town of Wellingborough. It provides a safe space for people to go to get some food, have a shower, get their clothes washed and dried and to have a friendly chat over a hot drink. The Daylight Centre can also help with signposting people or helping them through the complicated and sole destroying process of travelling the road to a new start.
Please donate to this cause to enable the vital work of the Daylight Centre to continue. Without this hub, the homeless of Wellingborough would have literally nowhere else to go.
Thank you for visiting our page. Together we can assist in ending homelessness.
