Becton Dickinson have chosen to sponsor Promoting Children in Plymouth (PCiP).  PCiP seeks to support and inspire children to achieve their true potential despite their background.

In Plymouth more than12,000 children and young people live in poverty.  Devonport and St Peters and the Waterfront sit in the 1% most deprived wards in the country, we witness pockets of the city where 80% of the children live in poverty.  For many, poverty is generational, relentless and an incredibly hard cycle to break.

PCiP’s specific mission is to eradicate the social injustice, ill-health and misery caused by child poverty in Plymouth. It brings together the public, private and third sectors to ensure that, as a city acting in unison, we remain dedicated to making a difference throughout a young person’s early life.

Inspiration - the opportunities that children can be given to achieve their true potential which many other children take for granted, such as visiting the outdoors or just seeing beyond their immediate world.
Aspiration - to understand the life and employment opportunities which are open to all, assisting young people to establish goals to work towards and believing that they can achieve them, no matter what their background.

Education - the toolkit of life skills, such as language, confidence, experiences and knowledge of how to present yourself, which allow children to compete on a level playing field with others.

The generational cycle of poverty is relentless; the children need an ‘all city response' and this needs to be relentless too.
