I arrived in Newport in December 23 having been forced to leave my own country because of persecution. I felt lonely, scared and worried about maintaining my own mental health, and felt lost. I began attending the Gap Centre, where I found support and a community who understood me and my situation. Soon, I started regularly volunteering at the Gap centre's 'Newport Cycle Hub', where our volunteer team repaired donated bikes for the community every week. We also carry out basic on the spot repairs for a wide range of people from the community. As I began to cycle myself, I found it boosted my own wellbeing. The staff at the Gap Centre recommended that I join Newport Live's Couch to 5ok Cycling project. I found that I really enjoyed the physical and mental benefits of cycling.
I really want others to be able to benefit from cycling like me, so am fundraising for the Gap Centre's Newport Cycle Hub, as they need money to buy spare parts to be able to fix up and give a way bikes. Many people struggle to afford a bike or to keep it repaired. I was given a bike tor ride and it has changed my life.
So, along with my good friend Sam and we will cycle from Bethlehem to Newport to raise funds for The Gap Centre. This will 155 miles and will be completed on 5th September, and will be about 16 hours of non stop cycling. This is in preparation for a bigger project called "Wales In A Day" where we will cycle the length of Wales - in one day.
So please give generously and support this important local cause !
