I’m taking part in Jubilee Pool’s 24hr swimming relay- the Jubilee-athon to raise vital funding to support bringing this community asset into public ownership following the threat of closure by Bristol City Council.
This beautiful pool has been operating for 85 years providing a range of services including accessible swimming sessions for vulnerable children and adults in one of the poorest parts of Bristol with some of the worst socio-economic and health outcomes.
If you know me you’ll know I love swimming, once you’ve learnt to swim, it is a skill you have for life. To some a sport, to others a leisure activity, accessible and beneficial to so many, and yet Bristol has so few facilities. It would be such a shame to lose this one. It is much loved and well used by the community by a range of groups, clubs, schools and non members who all stress how critical the facility is to their mental and physical health and wellbeing. And I love it because it’s warm and full of character!
I’ve got the 9am Sunday slot, wish me luck!
