The swimming pool was opened in 1937. It is now the first public swimming pool to be taken into community ownership and operation under the Community Asset transfer scheme.

In 2017, the council launched a consultation on its plans to withdraw the £62,000 subsidy required for the pool to operate. Following local residents protest, the council decided to renew its contract with Parkwood Leisure for another five years. The pool was threatened with closure again in August 2020 when the council launched another consultation.

On 30 September 2022, management of the pool was transferred from the council to the Friends of Jubilee Pool under a 35-year lease. It is the first swimming pool in Bristol to be community owned. It will initially continue to be operated by Parkwood Leisure.

At 8am on Saturday the 28th January my daughter, Mia and I are swimming a two-length relay of the 25 meter pool for an hour to raise funds. We are helping to pay for maintenance and development of this community pool. This is part of the Jubilee Pool 24 hour Swimathon fundraising event starting at 12noon on the Saturday 28th January and finishing at 12 noon on Sunday 29th January. That’s right swimmers will be swimming continually right through the night. We can’t make it so were doing our 4am slot at 8am, lucky us!!

Any sponsorship by length or for completing the hour’s swim would be appreciated. There not going to build another one like it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
