The fund raising challenge is to swim the 158 miles from the Jubilee Pool in Knowle Friends of Jubilee Pool (FoJP) to the Jubilee Lido in Penzance The UK's Most Celebrated Saltwater Lido - Jubilee Pool, Penzance, Cornwall.
The plan is simple, will start on the 2nd January 2026 and complete 157 miles at the Bristol Jubilee pool (that's 11,305 lengths you wont have to swim ๐), will do the last mile in sunny Penzance and hope to finish by October 2026.
Both pools are Community owned and both rely heavily on the local volunteers to help maintain the building and support continual fundraising to keep these much loved amenities open.
Jubilee Pool (Bristol) was saved from closure in October 2022 when the City Council transferred a 35 year lease to the FoJP. As a relatively new Trustee, I am constantly impressed by the energy, by the immense volunteer effort and relentless fundraising required to keep this treasured pool open.
This little adventure is my way of saying thankyou and an opportunity to help raise some money to keep the pool moving forward. There are some very exciting future developments being worked on which include green energy generation to offset the rising utility bills, a pop-up sauna and spa plus continued maintenance and improvements to the building.
One thing I have learnt is just how complex running a public Pool is. We are fortunate in having Parkwood Leisure as our day to day operational partner. However, all buildings have issues, but 95 year old Swimming Pools have bigger issues, and when things go wrong (as they regularly do) they need to be fixed quickly.
Finally, I greatly appreciated your support with this fundraiser and I will keep you all posted on progress whether you like it or not ๐
