I’m taking part in the sponsored 24 hours swim to help Friends of Jubilee Pool to keep it open. I will be swimming 3 hours over the weekend and I’m hoping to swim pass the 5k mark 🏊
The Council’s contract with Parkfield Leisure, the current provider, is due to terminate in March 2022 - this is less than three months away! The Council will not be renewing this contract, but have agreed to consider a community asset transfer (CAT) and Friends of Jubilee Pool will be submitting a proposal. As a voluntary organisation, they are recruiting funds to cover the costs of the professional help needed to submit the bid and I would like to support them.
The pool has been part of my life ever since I moved to Brislington in 2019 and swimming has been part of my life ever since I’ve got memory! Swimming is recognised to contribute towards mental health wellbeing and it was particularly crucial for my physical health growing up with scoliosis. I can’t imagine any community losing a resource that plays such an important role in preventing health issues.
Jubilee Pool is also an architectural asset for Bristol. On an anecdotical note, every time I jump into the pool it feels I’m jumping into a Wes Anderson film. It wouldn’t be right to let the building lose its purpose!
