At Leeds Women’s Aid, we support around 100 children and young people in refuge settings every year, who have witnessed or experienced domestic violence and abuse. Women and their families often arrive to us vulnerable and scared, with very few of their own possessions.
Our refuge accommodation provides a safe space for them to rebuild their lives, but currently we don’t have any dedicated space for children and young people to relax and play.
We are planning to build a brand-new Children and Young People’s Hub which will be based at one of the refuges to provide a sanctuary for the young people staying with us, creating a space for them to relax and socialise, helping them recover from the trauma of abuse.
The hub will involve major refurbishment of an existing building on site, including installing a first floor, a new kitchen, a new heating system, accessible entry and toilets, a sensory area for under five-year-olds, and a teenage zone for the older children.
To make the new hub a reality, we need your help! The total coast of the hub will be just over £300,00 and as part of our fundraising we are aiming to raise £20,000 pounds through our public appeal to help fund the hub. Any donation no matter how small can help create a brighter future for families in refuge.
