I recently joined The Jubilee swimming pool having ditched my membership elsewhere, for lots of frustrating reasons. I was drawn to two things - I had to cycle up a long hill to get to the Jubilee AND every time I swam there - I knew I'd be supporting a community owned asset. It was a no brainer to set myself a challenge to raise vital funds for this pool. It seems relevant to mention that it was near impossible to book a swimming slot at my previous pool, and yet Bristol City Council decided to cut funding for the Jubilee in favour of three other centres (my old centre being one of them) - all of which are seemingly too busy! The Jubilee pool NEEDS to survive. In the short time I've been a member at the Jubilee - I feel committed to supporting her! So, my challenge.. Over the course of the 24 hour Swimathon starting Midday on 28th January - I have 6 hour long sessions booked (12pm, 4pm, 8pm, 12am, 6am, 11am), During these sessions I will swim freestyle (crawl) continuously (with the odd recovery length I'm sure!) I currently swim approximately 2.8-2.9 k in an hour so give or take a bit of fatigue I think I should be able to hit 16K over the 6 hours. It will be an exciting & surreal 24 hours but I'm looking forward to being part of some heartfelt enthusiasm, camaraderie and most of all the Jubilee community. Please donate whatever you can - anything raised will go directly towards to the vital maintenance of this great community pool and gym. And finally, THANK YOU for reading and hopefully supporting.
