After retiring from competitive sports several years ago, my physical activity level dropped. I still cycled and walked as my main mode of transport, however, that feeling derived from high intensity training, which leaves you question your sanity just for participating, had left the building. Volunteering with the Upper Room reminded me to appreciate the circumstances which allow me to dedicate time to help this amazing team deliver the charity's service to it's users. So when the offer came to take part in the Royal Parks half marathon, I jumped at the chance to push myself again.
I'm now well into my training schedule {update: now 4 weeks away.. arghhh!} My body slowly adapted to the rigour of road running again and have vastly improved my times on shorter runs. At 46, this isn't exactly "enjoyable", but the goal and the process are highly motivating. Watch this space for training pics (or whimsical quips from A&E...). Nick R
