Imara is so grateful to have been nominated by President Janine McKinney as Nottinghamshire Law Society’s President Charity for this year. Imara is an independent specialist service that supports children and young people across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire following a disclosure or discovery of child sexual abuse. We are a charity and all of our services are free to access. Imara provides creative arts therapies (art, play, music, dance movement) which empower children and young people to recover from trauma, and our CHISVAs (Children and Young People’s Independent Sexual Violence Advisors) provide support and information throughout the police investigation and court process. We also work with safe carers, family members and professionals around the young people to improve their understanding of trauma and responses to sexual abuse, in order to rebuild stability, resilience and safety. We believe that talking about child sexual abuse is not shameful, ignoring it is.
