Swimathon 2200@2200
UPDATE: I did it! 140 lengths (3,080m) front crawl in an hour - a personal best and top of the leaderboard too! Thanks for all your support and the generous donations. You’ve helped give Jubilee Pool a brighter future. Thank you.
=============
Jubilee Pool in Bristol was rescued from Council closure and taken into Community ownership in September 2022. Spiralling energy costs and urgent maintenance work on this 85 year old pool, mean a £30k cash injection is needed. Jubilee Pool is used extensively by the local community, from the youngest to the oldest, all abilities and fitness levels, and is a social hub for many. For me personally, my lunchtime swims have been essential for my mental and physical health - it’s definitely my happy place.
To help raise urgently needed funds, there’s a 24 hour sponsored swimathon at the pool on 28/29 January. The aim is to always have someone in the pool throughout that 24 hour period and to cover the equivalent distance between Bristol and London. As my partying days are a few decades behind me, I’ll be swimming the 10pm slot on Saturday night (2200hrs) and aim to swim at least 100 lengths of front crawl (2200m) during my hour: 2200@2200. (I’m quite glad the 11pm and 12pm slots had already gone!)
I know times are very hard financially for everyone at the moment, but if you do feel you can give a little something to Jubilee Pool to help keep this wonderful, well-used community asset afloat, that would be amazing.
Thank you,
Dan
