Update: Race completed! You can see the route I took here.
Over the course of 13 days, 18 hours and 6 minutes, the total distance I covered was 4,059km (2,522 miles) with just under 43,000m (140,000 ft) of climbing.
There are some pictures here, but there are more on my Instagram page.
And, I know you're wondering, but actually my back-side is fine!
------
Starting from the Black Sea coastal town of Burgas on Saturday 27 July 2019, I am going to try to cycle along 4,000km of roads, gravel tracks and goat tracks with the aim of reaching Brest in north-west France in 14 days or less.
That's around 285km (180miles) per day. Every day. There's also about 40,000m uphill to stop me getting bored.
It's self-supported so I'll be carrying everything I need - including a bivvy bag for sleeping in bus shelters, or comfy looking ditch, along the way.
A number of people have asked me why I'm doing it. I'm not really sure what the answer to that is yet. It certainly wasn't initially to raise money for charity. However, so many people have asked me if it is, that I'm beginning to think the sheer ridiculousness of the challenge makes people come over all generous.
To help exploit those caught off-guard by the very idea of the task ahead of me, I've set up this page to collect all your hard (or not so hard) earned cash and raise whatever I can for Bristol Refugee Rights. Maybe seeing the money flood in will give me perspective in the inevitable darker moments of the ride, and spur me on to the finish when every bone in my body, or saddle sore on my back-side, wants to stop.
Please do help support this very worthwhile cause and, in return, I'll try and post pictures as often as I can along the way.
Tiredness, phone signal and dodgy-hotel WiFi allowing, you'll be able to keep up with me on Instagram and Strava. All being well, once the race starts, you'll be able to see precisely where I am at any time of the day here.
Thanks,
Dave Bristol Refugee Rights
