Team TLC run the Brighton 10km

"The minute a refugee starts working, they are no longer a refugee", Hamdi Ulukaya, founder of Chobani Yogurt.

Refugees in the UK face significant challenges and barriers to obtaining legitimate, good quality, fair work, these include; lack of English proficiency; past trauma and low confidence; negative perceptions of refugees; lack of personal networks; difficulties understanding and navigating the employment system, overwhelming and unfamiliar bureaucratic systems as well as practical barriers (e.g. childcare, transport, accommodation).

The Launchpad Collective set up in 2020 to support refugee job seekers to become work-ready, importantly, all of our core staff have refugee backgrounds themselves and our services are co-created by people with lived experience. We are excited to be running the Brighton 10km in April this year to raise money to provide clients with our Tailored Support. This provides one-to-one personalised employment support for example CV writing, interview skills, job search and applications and confidence building. We pride ourselves on the exceptionally high quality of support.

Our goal is to raise a grand total of £2,500 - with £1,000 being generously match-funded by our partners at Enjoolata Foundation!

“The most useful opportunity I have had since coming to the UK” TLC client

“Your service is needed as a refugee we need more support than an agency could offer, not many agencies can understand nor know what a refugee goes through but your service know exactly” TLC client
