Despite significant progress, women in sport still face persistent barriers including unequal access to funding and resources, confidence gaps and limited opportunities to participate. In the UK, girls have 1.3 million fewer opportunities to play sport at a high school level than boys and by age 14 they drop out at twice the rate.

This lacrosse tournament brings together the University of Leeds’ female sports societies to fundraise for Getaway Girls, a Leeds charity that empowers young women to build confidence and resilience through trying new activities. Not only can we celebrate women's sport at Leeds by showing up for each other, but we can also demonstrate that trying a new sport is fun, supportive and rewarding.
