A 350km Cycling route, raising money for God Unlimited Outdoor Therapy In August of 2021 James and Naomi Whimpenny, together with their support crew Bex and Stuart will be undertaking an epic adventure to try to raise £1000 for God Unlimited Outdoor Therapy (Gul), a cause that is close to both of their hearts as they are both former Gul employees and long term volunteers who care passionately about improving mental health using the outdoors.
About Gul
Gul was founded in 2006 to provide activities in the outdoors that improve the wellbeing of people of all ages and backgrounds. The charity offers equine assisted therapy services and all manner of other support services in the outdoors, based in the knowledge that being outside is good for you. 2020/21 was a challenging year for all of us, In the minds of the staff at Gul this underlines just how important Gul is and will continue to be in helping people of all ages overcome barriers and build a better future.
About us
The Whimpennys are committed to the cause and already working hard training for the route which will be completed over 3 days which is a staggering 117Km per day! They will have help, in the form of 2 friends Stuart and Bex who will keep them safe, fed and watered as well as (undoubtedly) cheering them on when it gets really tough.
The Plan
King Alfred's Way starts and ends in Winchester where Alfred is buried, and connects iconic monuments including Stonehenge, Avebury stone circle, Iron Age hill forts, Farnham Castle, and Winchester and Salisbury Cathedrals.
How long will it take to ride the route? The Whimpennys are on a mission, they aren’t there for the fun, they want to complete the route in 3 days and raise as much money for Gul as possible while doing it. Other than that (and the inevitable saddle soreness) it should be easy right…
