My name is Ailith Harley‑Roberts, co‑founder of Sunshine & Smiles – Leeds Down Syndrome Network; this year I’m taking on my biggest personal challenge yet to help us achieve our biggest organisational dream.
In 2025, I’m aiming to complete as many fundraising challenges as I possibly can – including the Leeds Marathon, Endure 24 and the Great North Run. Each event will push me physically and mentally, but every mile will be fuelled by the same purpose: raising vital funds to create a permanent home for Sunshine & Smiles.
Over the years, I’ve taken on some tough challenges, from the London Marathon to an Ironman‑distance triathlon, and together we’ve raised thousands of pounds to support children and adults with Down syndrome and their families. But this year is different. This time, the goal is bigger, bolder and more transformative than anything we’ve attempted before.
We are working towards a £1.1 million project to purchase and renovate a building that will become an accessible, inclusive and sustainable community hub. A place where people with Down syndrome can learn, work, socialise and thrive. A place where families can find support, connection and community. A place that will also welcome and benefit the wider Leeds community.
This building will secure our future. It will allow us to expand employment opportunities, grow our early years and family support, strengthen our social enterprises and create a vibrant space that truly belongs to the people we serve.
I know it’s a huge target. But I also know the power of this community and the difference Sunshine & Smiles makes every single day.
If you’re able to support me, whether with a donation, a share, or a cheer along the way… it would mean the world.
Together, we can build something extraordinary.
