On 22 March 2015 I am running the Rome Marathon and I am supporting Equal People Mencap.
As many of my friends and family will know, I have been running for a while; however I have never run a marathon before. This is mostly due to the amount of training that it takes to be ‘marathon ready’ and also because marathons often take place in early Spring which puts a bit of a dampener on Christmas.
I started my training at the beginning of December and, since then, have been training 4-5 days per week, including evenings, weekends, an agonising 16 mile cross country run on Christmas Eve and in temperatures as low as minus 16 degrees when on holiday in Canada.
The reason for choosing to run for Equal People Mencap is that I am a trustee for this charity and therefore I get to see the work they do first hand. The charity was founded 30 years ago by parents who wanted their children to have more choice. They work to “Turn Dreams into Action at the Pace of the Individual.” Equal People believes people with learning disabilities have the right to make decisions about their own lives and choose how they want to be supported. There is much more information available about the charity, their work and values at http://www.equalpeoplemencap.org.uk/
They are a really wonderful charity and I’d be very appreciative if you would help me to support them in the great work that they do. It will also spur me on in case I hit the dreaded wall mid-marathon. You can sponsor me through this page here or "offline" in person.
Thanks for your support and wish me luck!
Louise
