A Sports Coach and young volunteers run the sessions. Each session starts with a badminton warm up and a skill game such as skittles. Members choose the main activity which concentrate on teamwork and communication. At halftime the members share their week's news, thereby building their confidence. Our more active sessions usually end with a yoga session. We have forged successful partnerships with local sports clubs offering our athletes the opportunity to work with professional coaches.
Why they need our serviceWe identified a lack of evening entertainment for younger people (16plus) with Autism and/or mild learning disabilities. We piloted the Allsports programme on Tuesday evenings in January 2015 and it has become one of our most popular projects.
Plan and expected resultsThis project has grown to become much more than a sports club - our members enjoy each other's company in the downtime periods and new friendship groups have grown as a direct result of meeting at Allsports. Parents are delighted that there is now a structured evening activity available to their sons and daughters where they can enjoy meeting new people.
