I am participating in this year’s 16th Great Midlands Fun Run as a team member of ‘Beating Brain Cancer’ in memory of Marie Hunter.
The two charities I have chosen to support are:
Our Place Community Hub - a mentoring service to help disadvantaged and abused children in Sutton Coldfield &
Focus Birmingham - a specialist charity which provides expert support, advice and information to blind, visually impaired and disabled people of all ages across the cultural spectrum in Birmingham.
Marie Hunter was the daughter of a close friend of mine Phil Dunn. She heartbreakingly passed away in February 2017, aged just 39, after having lived with brain cancer for nine years.
Marie began her work at ‘Our Place’ in January 2012 and loved helping the children as a mentor. During her time at ‘Our Place’,
Marie helped many children re-gain a normal family life and gave them back the self-respect and confidence that they had lost. Raising money for ‘Our Place’ is our way of continuing to support the work Marie began in 2012, work Marie was passionate about despite her cancer.
Focus Birmingham is the chosen charity for 2018 of the BNI business networking group of which I am a member and one which I, along with my fellow BNI members, wish to support to help the charity continue its vital work with those visually impaired across Birmingham.
