This year CE Bristol is planning to add therapy animals to their staff team!
CE Bristol CIC are a not for profit community organisation which supports children and adults with neurological movement disorders (including but not limited to Cerebral Palsy, GDD, metabolic disorders, down syndrome) across not only Bristol, but also across Wiltshire and beyond.
During CE sessions we work on developing each individuals gross and fine motor skills, transferring skills, communication skills, self care skills, problem solving skills and confidence.
Developing motivation, engagement and self esteem is equally vitally important for children with additional needs - access to animals during animal therapy sessions can provide this. During the last 5 years we have accessed animal therapy provisions across Wiltshire and Bristol during school holidays with the children and adults we work with; with great success! Multiple studies have found that being around animals can improve mood by decreasing feelings of anxiety and stress. Animal assisted therapy has also been found to increase engagement, confidence, motivation, social interaction and physical activity.
This summer (2024) to ensure we can bring the benefits of animal therapy to our children and families on a more regular basis we are launching our own animal therapy project!
There is much to organise from finding land, building animal housing for chickens, ducks, rabbits and guinea pigs, insurance, licences and staff training which is where we need your support!
We can't wait to add new feathery and hairy staff members to our team and bring the joy and therapeutic benefits of animal therapy to the children and adults we work with :)
