I'm terrified of heights. Queue head spins, sweat, heart palpitations, clinging onto whatever hard surface is close by. Am exploring the links between facing your fears, pushing boundaries and taking risk - and the process of art-making - in a short docu-film of me leaping out of a plane to help raise money for the Cambridge Art Salon. To help me prepare, I'll be asking experts how to conquer fear, artists how to manage anxiety. Making art is a risky business, but if we all gave into our fears and stayed safe, the world would be a very dull place indeed. Or would it?
In under 3 years, the Cambridge Art Salon has created: studio space for 18 artists and creative practitioners, a gallery, an art festival, one map listing 22 art spaces in Cambridge, 2 awards for emerging artists, workshops, a network of support, a platform for screenings, networking events, plus helped a range of creative practitioners in the community with one to one support and help.
