1-3% of the population is diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Yet it's highly stigmatised & misunderstood, & tragically, 1 in 10 of those diagnosed die from suicide.

To increase awareness & reduce stigma, we're making a short film centered around a therapy group for adults with BPD.

The film is set in a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group - all the group members have BPD). It shows the reality of life with BPD, as we see the characters' struggles as they learn to manage BPD symptoms in day to day life. But we also see their unique qualities and we're falling in love with them & their quirky ways! We see the friendships that develop in the group & their strength - both as individuals & as a group - in not letting BPD win. We hope that this will offer hope and reassurance to those watching. The film will premiere at Quad in Derby and a DVD will be produced! We also plan to develop an educational resource package to go alongside it (aimed at professionals & students working in medical/social services). We're very excited about this project's potential to increase awareness and to decrease stigma & feelings of isolation. Watch this space for more information!

How the funding will be spent
The proposal and budget is currently being created and so we will have a much clearer budget very soon, but as a starting point, we are estimating a total of approximately £20,000. Once the budget is created, we will share more about how the funding will be spent.

How this will benefit the community
Our aim is that our film will raise awareness of BPD in the general public & educate health professionals, & subsequently: * Develop more informed/caring attitudes toward those with BPD * Reduce feelings of shame in those with BPD * Decrease delays in seeking/receiving BPD support * Improve the quality of care from professionals/loved ones * Prevent BPD symptoms worsening * Improve quality of life for those with BPD * Decrease the amount of attempted or even completed suicides in those with BPD
