Barneys Walk for a Hydro Pool
My son attends Ysgol Tir Morfa, which is the Special Educational Needs (SEN) school for the county of Denbighshire. The children who attend are aged between 3-19 years old. They have various disabilities, autism, syndromes, learning, communication, sensory etc.
Barney is our school support dog. He is a very patient and gentle yellow Lab. The pupils love him (and the staff and parents do too). He has a special lead so two pupils at a time can take him for a walk. He attends classes, enjoys being read too and enjoys teaching well being to the pupils. He even goes to visit another local SEN school and accompanies pupils with ASD on walks.
Our school is 1 of a few SEN schools in Wales who don't have a hydrotherapy pool.
Our parent and teacher assication, YTM PTA, have decided to support our school in the raising money to build a hydrotherapy pool. The pool will cost £85000.00 to build. YTM PTA need to fund raise £35000
A hydrotherapy pool develops communication for all pupils particularly those with profound and multiple difficulties. It is a physical therapy programme under the direction of the physiotherapist so develops gross motor skills for pupils. It encourages stretching of muscles particularly for pupils who are wheelchair users and helps develop tracking systems in all pupils. It promotes pupil well being,
Hydrotherapy has been proven to improve movement, provide postural support, and promote relaxation of spastic muscles, improved circulation, and strengthening, allowing a variety of fundamental motor skills to be performed, relative to an individual's skill level. Aquatic activities also provide opportunities for social interaction and play, which can facilitate language development and improve self-esteem, self-awareness, and sense of accomplishment. NICE support this therapy.
The pool will also be accessed by our community.
We are very excited with the project. We're really grateful for your contribution
