At this time of year when we're tucked up inside our nice warm houses we should all be thinking of those less fortunate who are sheltering in doorways trying to stay warm. But we're not. And to be completely honest until recently I rarely gave it a thought. Then something made me stop and talk to a man who was sleeping rough in Chelmsford on my way to the shops. I discovered a funny, charming and entirely pleasant chap selling friendship bracelets he had made himself to earn a few quid. I bought a couple and carried on with my day but have been thinking of, and talking about, that man ever since.
I came into contact with CHESS a few years ago through work and was impressed with what they were doing at the time and have been doing ever since and for this reason and the experience mentioned above I have chosen them as my nominated charity.
A week ago I stopped shaving and will now not shave again until 2014 in the hope that my looking like an idiot will prompt those around me to chuck a few quid in the pot for those of us who are out in the cold this Christmas.
It goes without saying that I would welcome on board anyone who wishes to join me in this slightly embarrassing but, I'm sure, ultimately rewarding endeavour!
Progress photos will be posted!!
