Pikachu, a dinosaur, the Cheshire Cat and a cow go for a walk... and no, it's not a joke! On Saturday 26th February, a few of us will be walking round Carsington Resevoir in onesies. Yes, I will feel stupid. Yes, I will be cold. Yes, I quite possibly will need to stay in bed for the entire day after. But it's worth it! In 2009, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) alongside other mental illnesses. Since that time, I have been an inpatient of psychiatric wards a total of four times; that amounts to over a year spent in hospital. Although those times were incredibly difficult, I owe my life to the staff there, alongside the incredible support I receive (still today) from my family and friends. Borderline Arts - the charity raising awareness of BPD via workshops and art exhibitions, amongst other things - is now back up and running, but to carry on with these things we need funds! We are the ONLY charity in the UK run specifically for BPD, so it is really important to keep that going. The work that Borderline Arts does helps to educate about, raise awareness of, and as a result help break down the stigma surrounding BPD. If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it really WILL make a difference in helping us to continue to enable people - healthcare professionals, the public, family, friends - to understand and treat BPD. The people around me who understand the illness play a vital role in keeping my mental health stable, and this makes a massive difference to my life and everyone in it, as well as the lives of many of my friends who also suffer. We will be eternally grateful for your help and support. Thank you in anticipation!
