My name is Becky, and I have recently started volunteering at MS UK centre in Stone, Staffordshire. Whilst I have been here I have learnt a lot about the condition and the effects it can have on individuals. One in 700 have the chance of having MS and I feel that we should all be more aware of the condition. MS is short for Multiple Sclerosis and is a condition that damages the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord. Our nerves are protected by a covering called myelin sheath, and the body's own immune system attacks the sheath protecting the nerves. This means the electrical current escapes from the nerve and the messages may be slowed down or even be completely blocked. This leads to different symptoms of MS. This could mean the person may not be able to see clearly or walk as fast. The symptoms depend on where in the brain or spinal cord has been damaged - so no two people with MS have the same symptoms. Nobody knows exactly how MS is caused but there is lots of research looking into this. So I would like to raise awareness of the condition and help fundraise as much as possible so this is why I have decided run the half marathon in Stafford on the 16th of March 2014 along with two other fantastic ladies Kerry and Julie. So please, please donate and help us raise as much as possible for MS-UK. Many Thanks
