#bemoremandy Yorkshire Coast Mandathon

In April 2021 my friends wife Mandy was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive stage 4 tumour, which was incurable and classed as ‘terminal’ and sadly she lost her life in December 2021.

Mandy enjoyed a full, wonderful and exciting life.  She was a true believer in random acts of kindness and was known as ‘Charity Angel’, collectively raising around £2million for various charities.  Before Mandy passed away she launched her #BeMoreMandy social media campaign that represents everything Mandy was and that gave her joy.

This campaign was designed to ‘Pass the Baton’ and encourage others to ‘just do it’.  Reach out to someone in need, help a charity, donate, pay it forward or just spread some joy’.

Mandy wanted us to stop saying ‘I will get round to it’ and ‘just do it’.

So in true #BeMoreMandy style, Gary Johnston and I have signed up to do the Yorkshire Coast Mandathon, on the 7th May, walking 32 miles in one day from Whitby to Filey, to raise money for the #BeMoreMandy campaign. It’s going to be a real challenge, particularly for me as I rarely manage to reach 10,000 steps a day!

Filey holds very special memories for Mandy as she previously fundraised to bring a whole school of children from Huddersfield to the seaside, making memories for many who had never seen the sea before.

To me, Mandy was, and still is truly inspirational.
